
Wisconsin Badgers
MADISON, WI (WSAU) – The Wisconsin Badgers women’s hockey team defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes 4-3 on Sunday afternoon to win the 2025 NCAA Women’s National Championship.
The Buckeyes got off to a fast start, scoring their first goal with 11:38 remaining in the first period before Badgers star Laila Edwards scored her fifth goal of the tournament on a power play to tie the game at a goal apiece. Ohio State scored again to end the period and at the start of the second period to go ahead of Wisconsin with a 3-1 lead.
Wisconsin continued to chip away as KK Harvey scored off a rebound with 14:33 to go in the second period to make the game 3-2. Still, Wisconsin struggled to score during the third period until the Badgers emptied their net with 1:50 to play before Kristin Simms scored on a penalty shot to tie the game at three goals apiece with 18.9 seconds to go.
The game went to overtime, and Kristen Simms scored a walk-off goal to win the program’s eighth national championship. Simms’ two key goals led her to be named the most outstanding player of the game.
