MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — The 18-year-old accused of helping Javarius Hurd plan his attack on a Lincoln Hills correctional officer, leading to the death of Officer Corey Proulx, is scheduled for a plea hearing on charges of felony murder with special circumstances and battery by prisoners.
Rian Nyblom has been scheduled for a plea hearing on April 24th, where he will face up to six years in prison and $10,000 in fines. Investigators say he gave Hurd a cup of soap that he threw in the face of a female correctional officer, who he felt was treating him unfairly.
That sparked a chain of events which ended when Hurd allegedly knocked Proulx to the ground. He hit his head on a hard surface and was declared brain dead a few hours later at a local hospital.
Hurd is facing a felony count for reckless homicide in adult court, though his lawyer unsuccessfully argued that the case should be moved to the juvenile system. He’s scheduled for a bond hearing on Wednesday.
