Jesus Contreras Perez
NEILLSVILLE, WI (WSAU) — The man previously found guilty of killing Cassandra Ayon is now on track for a new trial.
Court records show Jesus Contreras Perez’s conviction was vacated on March 14th, and the case against him was re-opened that same day.
It’s unclear what caused the change, but it comes a little more than three months after Ayon’s remains were found in rural Marathon County.
Ayon went missing in the fall of 2020. Conteras Perez was arrested and charged with killing her in the summer of 2021 and found guilty at trial in June of 2022.
Court records do not indicate if any new charges have been filed in the case. The 45-year-old is being held in the Clark County Jail on a $1 million cash bond. No further court dates have been scheduled.
