WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The former Clerk for the Town of Bergen has been charged with stealing public funds over several months.
Gloriann Doyle faces 11 counts, including theft of movable property totaling more than $100,000, after town officials found irregularities in the community’s checkbooks. They discovered that Doyle had written a handful of checks to herself between July of 2024 and January 2025.
The 65-year-old said she had fallen behind on personal bills, including her mortgage, and was using the money to catch up.
She’s also accused of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Wisconsin Valley Art Association while serving on its board.
All told Doyle faces 11 felony counts that could land her in prison for more than 60 years if found guilty. Her next court appearance is scheduled for April 2nd, and she is jailed on a $50,000 bond.
Doyle’s name is on the ballot for next Tuesday’s election, though she has reportedly resigned as Clerk. The current interim clerk, Amy Veenendaal, is running as a write-in candidate.
