GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – The Green Bay Packers will host one of the draft’s top cornerback prospects for an official visit this week.
According to Sports Illustrated’s Bill Huber, former East Carolina cornerback and projected first-round pick Shavon Revel will visit the Packers next week for an official top 30 visit.
Revel, who missed most of the 2024 season due to a torn ACL, allowed a completion rate of only 42.9% and intercepted three passes during the Pirates’ first three games of the season before suffering the injury during practice last September. Revel and his doctor have told teams that he will be ready to participate when training camp begins this summer.
This visit would be the Packers’ second look at Revel after they visited with him and attended his workouts during the NFL Combine in February. When asked by the media about the Packers, Revel said, “I love the Packers. I mean, I love Jaire Alexander. He was a good cornerback whom I looked up to. I like how he pressed at the line of scrimmage and stuff like that. I feel like I carry the same attributes that he carried.”
During the 2023 season, Revel posted one of the best missed tackle rates in the nation at only 5%, according to PFF. For comparison, other top cornerback prospects in this year’s class, such as Michigan’s Will Johnson, recorded a missed tackle rate of 20.8%; Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron, 9.5%; Ole Miss cornerback Trey Amos, 11.6%; and Notre Dame’s Benjamin Morrison, 16.7%. Revel also posted one of the better Pro Football Focus pass coverage grades in 2023 at 90.5%.
Many worry about Revel’s lack of experience against top-end wide receivers, as the East Carolina Pirates don’t face tough opponents each week like Big Ten or SEC programs do, but Revel reportedly turned down large NIL offers to leave the Pirates to stay with the program in 2024 and draws comparisons to New York Jets’ cornerback Sauce Gardner, who went on to be a star in the NFL despite not playing against top-end competition at Cincinnati.
