GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) – A Green Bay man has been named the first person this election cycle to win $1 million after signing America PAC’s petition opposing what they refer to as activist judges.
According to a post on X from the PAC, Scott Ainsworth was presented with a check from the group as the PAC continues to encourage voters in swing states to oppose judges on the left side of the aisle, such as Wisconsin Supreme Court candidate Susan Crawford, who is running against former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel in a tightly contested race for the high court.
The giveaways began during the 2024 general election and were the topic of legal discussions and even lawsuits that alleged that the payments were illegal due to them allegedly violating state laws on lotteries since the PAC doesn’t have a clear set of rules on how someone could win the contest other than signing their petition. Pennsylvania Judge Angelo Foglietta paused the attempts to block the giveaways back in November while federal courts weighed the legal arguments of the case, and no further action has been taken since the pause.
Musk’s lawyer, Andy Taylor, successfully argued that the giveaways are not a lottery system due to individuals having “an opportunity to earn. It’s not a chance to win” since the PAC encourages those who sign the petition to be a spokesperson for their causes by telling and helping friends, family, and coworkers to vote on election day. Taylor also argued that shutting down the payments would infringe on First Amendment rights since the right to free speech covers a person’s ability to be politically active in their community.
In recent decades, Republicans have struggled to compete for high-end funding from millionaires and billionaires, as polling and previous FEC filings show that the vast majority of wealthy individuals who are politically active, such as George Soros, Reid Hoffman, Mark Zuckerberg, Tim Cook, Michael Bloomberg, Bill Gates, and nearly every celebrity in Hollywood, have donated to and encouraged voters to support Democratic candidates for office.
During the 2024 election cycle, America PAC awarded over $18 million to winners who signed their petition to support causes such as securing the U.S. southern border, sensible spending at the federal level, safe cities, a fair justice system, free speech, and the right to self-protection.
