MADISON, WI (WSAU) – One of the Badgers’ key young players, who was expected to become a featured player in 2026, is reportedly entering the transfer portal.
According to 247 Sports’ Sam Kayser, former four-star recruit Daniel Freitag will enter the transfer portal after just one season with the Badgers. He appeared in 14 games for Greg Gard this season and averaged 0.1 points and 0.2 assists a game.
Over the last two weeks, over 1,000 men’s basketball players have entered the NCAA transfer portal in hopes of cashing in on a major NIL deal from top programs or getting more money from the programs they were with the previous season. Last off-season, Wisconsin lost both Chucky Hepburn and A.J. Storr to the transfer portal, as both players reportedly received NIL deals worth $1 million while the Badgers looked for better and more affordable options in Jon Tonje and Xavier Amos.
Freitag will have three years of eligibility remaining, and schools such as Baylor, Iowa State, and Virginia are expected to be his top suitors, as they had previously recruited Freitag out of high school.
