STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The man suspected of setting multiple fires in a Stevens Point home occupied by members of a UWSP Fraternity will go to trial in December.
Eric Blum was scheduled for a three-day trial from December 10th to the 12th for felony counts of arson and recklessly endangering safety. Investigators say he set multiple fires in the home on Main Street near the UWSP campus, where he had been staying.
The incident started roughly one year ago when some roommates said they heard Blum talking, then saw an “orange glow” outside their bedrooms.
Roommates say Blum wasn’t paying rent, with the others covering his portion. He had also recently been kicked out of the Phi Sigma Phi organization.
The group also confirmed that several active members stayed in the house, but it was owned and managed by a local property owner, not Phi Sigma Phi.
The 22-year-old is being held on a quarter-million dollar bond. He will return to court for a bond modification hearing on April 22nd. Court records show that at least one other bond modification request has been denied.
Further hearings are scheduled for September 2nd and November 11th, ahead of the mid-December trial.
