HURLEY, WI (WSAU) — A 29-year-old Mercer man has been identified as the victim of Sunday night’s fatal crash in Iron County.
Investigators say Walker Kempen was driving an Audi A4 southbound on US Highway 51 when he lost control of the vehicle and rolled into the ditch. He was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
A passenger in the vehicle was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Both Kampen and his passenger had alcohol in their system at the time of the crash. The State Patrol also notes that neither were wearing a seat belt.
The State Patrol is continuing to investigate the crash. No further details have been released at this time.
The crash occurred as the Northwoods was dealing with an ice storm that knocked out power to over 95,000 customers.
