The Wausau Ethics Board will meet Thursday afternoon to further discuss the investigation into a complaint against Mayor Doug Diny.
The five-member board will discuss “whether the investigation is concluded or what further investigation may be needed.”
The investigation centers on Diny’s handling of a locked but not yet secured municipal dropbox placed outside City Hall at the end of September. Diny moved the box into his office for safekeeping, noting that anyone could have walked off with it. But City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde had intended for the box to be secured and opened to receive absentee ballots during the upcoming Presidental election.
The issue is also the subject of an ongoing investigation by the State Department of Justice. The status of that investigation is unclear, though an outside attorney hired by the city to assist the board in the matter confirmed that he has spoken to the investigators.
Thursday’s meeting begins at 4 PM at Wausau City Hall and will be live-streamed on YouTube.
