MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin Badgers star point guard John Blackwell has declared for the 2025 NBA draft but is not closing the door on returning to college for another season.
According to a post on his X account, point guard John Blackwell spoke about his decision, saying, “After speaking with Coach Gard, the coaching staff, Life Sports Agency, and my family, I’m excited to declare for the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining my collegiate eligibility. My goal has always been to play in the NBA, and going through the process will take me one step closer to my dream. I’d like to give all glory to God, as without him I wouldn’t be in this position.”
Blackwell, who has one season of eligibility remaining, averaged 15.8 points and 5.1 rebounds during this past season and is projected to be a 2nd-round pick in this year’s NBA draft, but his stock could improve after the league’s combine and interviews with teams are complete after scored 21 points and pulled down five rebounds in the team’s 91-89 tournament loss to BYU.
Blackwell is the first Badger to declare for the draft, as fellow guard John Tonje is expected to join him in the coming weeks.
