MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – As injuries continue to plague the Brewers’ pitching rotation, Milwaukee has made a trade to try to help boost its rotation.
According to a post on X from the team, the Brewers are acquiring pitcher Quinn Priester from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for their 7th overall prospect, Yophery Rodriguez, a player to be named later, and a competitive balance round A selection.
Priester, 24, was selected 19th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 2019 MLB Draft and made his major league debut for Pittsburgh in 2023 before being traded to Boston in 2024. He has struggled in the big leagues, posting a career record of 6-9 with a 6.23 ERA and 69 strikeouts.
The Brewers have a deep rotation of outfielders, and it was unclear when the 19-year-old Yophery Rodriguez would be ready to play in the majors after he hit .250 for the Carolina Mudcats in 2024, so his being included in the trade isn’t surprising.
The Brewers are currently without Nestor Cortes, Brandon Woodruff, D.L. Hall, Jose Quintana, Tobias Myers, Aaron Civale, and Aaron Ashby, so the acquisition of Priester gives the Brewers another young arm who can help fill in the meantime while they wait to get back some of their star pitchers.
