(LEARFIELD-WSAU) – A Netflix series streaming next month will put the spotlight on former Packers quarterback Brett Favre.
It won’t be a positive look, and that’s shown by the title, “The Fall of Favre,” which will be the latest presentation in the network’s “Untold” sports documentary series airing on the streaming platform on May 20th. The focus will be on the harassment allegations he faced while playing for the New York Jets and the ongoing controversy over his connection to a welfare scandal in his home state of Mississippi.
Earlier this month, a Mississippi judge rejected the lawsuit brought by former Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant against Mississippi Today, the journalistic organization that initiated the investigation into the scandal and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize in the process, according to ESPN’s Mark Fainaru-Wada. Billy Quinn, Bryant’s attorney, has stated that “this matter is far from over” and promised to file an appeal.
Favre and his legal team have also threatened to sue those in the media who make claims about his involvement in the scandal, with ESPN’s Pat McAfee being the most notable figure to face a lawsuit from Favre’s lawyer, Eric Herschmann, after McAfee and his fellow hosts repeatedly stated in 2023 that Favre was all but guilty of a crime, saying, “We have to make sure that it’s mentioned every time that man is mentioned because that’s a big deal.”
Herschmann responded to McAfee’s claims during an interview with former ESPN commentator and current Outkick podcaster Jason Whitlock, saying, “It’s going to cost Pat McAfee millions of dollars. And if it bankrupts him, then he will have learned his lesson about you don’t try to promote yourself by inappropriately and improperly attacking somebody else.” McAfee later apologized for his comments and ceased discussing the matter on air.
Favre has denied any wrongdoing and has never faced criminal charges in that case.
