It’s going to be a busy Tuesday night at Wausau City Hall.
The City Council will consider overriding Mayor Doug Diny’s veto of legal services for unelected city staffers who may become involved in an ethics hearing.
Alders voted to authorize the funding following a closed-session committee meeting earlier this month. Alder Lisa Rasmussen told WSAU news that the attorney in question was hired by the city’s municipal insurance company and paid through them. The bill recently reached its cap, meaning the expense burden now falls on the city. Alders voted to authorize up to $10,000, with any spending beyond that requiring additional action from the Council.
It’s also the first council meeting since Diny proposed moving the city from a strong Mayor form of government to a City Manager. The meeting starts at 6:30, and public comment is part of the agenda.
Before that, the Finance Committee will meet in closed session to discuss a proposal from the Bridge Street Mission to operate an overnight shelter at their new location on 1st Avenue. Organizers say they can house up to 40 men and 20 women, with an overflow room accommodating up to 75 total guests.
