WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A 30-year-old man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle along Highway 29 near the Wausau Business Campus late Monday.
Officers were called to an area near the 72nd Avenue ramp at about 11:30, where they found a man lying along the highway. When they confronted him, he got up and told them he had a gun.
He took off, running into the eastbound lanes of Highway 29, where he was struck by a vehicle.
First responders attempted life-saving measures, but the man died at the scene. Two people in the vehicle suffered minor injuries but did not require medical transport.
The victim was not identified. Officers closed the highway for about five hours for investigation and cleanup.
Responding agencies included the Wausau Police Department, Marathon County Sheriff’s Office, Wausau Fire/EMS, Marathon County Highway Department, and the Marathon County Medical Examiner’s Office. The incident remains under investigation by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office.
