MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) — The Brewers scored six runs in the 3rd inning en route to an 8-3 win over the Nationals on Friday.
William Contreras went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Both RBI came on a double in that big 3rd inning.
Andrew Vaughn launched a solo home run in the 7th inning, his 7th of the season and second since joining the team in a trade with the White Sox earlier this summer.
Sal Frelick and Caleb Durbin each added two hits. Christian Yelich recorded one hit, a two-run homer in the 3rd.
DL Hall pitched the first three innings. Quinn Priester went the final six to pick up the win. He allowed two earned runs and four hits while striking out five.
The same two teams will play again this evening. Coverage begins at 6:35 on WSAU.
The big news from the Brewers came just before Friday’s game when it was announced that rookie P Jacob Misiorowski will join the National League All-Star team in Atlanta next week after just five big-league starts, replacing Cubs P Matthew Boyd. Manager Pat Murphy gave him the news before first pitch and reportedly told him to keep it quiet until after the game, when he informed the team in the clubhouse.
Misiorowski made his Major League debut on June 12th against the Cardinals at American Family Field, tossing five no-hit innings and popping fastballs at 100+ MPH with regularity. He then took a perfect game into the 7th inning at Minnesota in his next start, setting a record for most hitless innings to start a major league career. He became a national talking point in his third start, outdueling Paul Skenes of the Pirates.
Friday’s news means he’s now one-upped Skenes again, making the All-Star team after just five appearances. The Pirates’ ace set that record last year with 12.
Misiorowski currently owns a 4-1 record with a 2.81 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 25.2 innings. He joins Brewers pitchers Freddy Peralta and Trevor Megill on the NL roster.
