MINOCQUA, WI (WSAU-WAOW) — A storage unit in Minocqua caught fire on Saturday, July 26th, injuring two firefighters.
With fire departments from neighboring counties making the commute, crews rotated every 15-20 minutes due to the extreme heat, with two firefighters suffering heat exhaustion.
“One firefighter was transported, he was released relatively quickly and actually returned back to the scene,” said Minocqua Fire Chief Rich Carani told WAOW TV. “The second firefighter, because we had a rehab area with EMS there, they were able to monitor that person on site.”
According to Carani, both firefighters are doing well, and the metal and wood structure of the storage building made the fire challenging to extinguish. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
According to Minocqua Fire and Rescue, the building was largely engulfed once the first crews arrived, and gaining access to the fire was a challenge. More than 30 units responded to the call.
