Chris Conley in the WSAU studio in Wausau, WI
CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Hello. My name is Chris Conley, and I would like to take a moment to introduce myself.
For the past 21 years I’ve been a part of the WSAU Wisconsin Morning News. For most of that time, I’ve been the number-two on the broadcast. I’ve been the news-reader, the co-host, and occasionally the fill-in host. Starting next week, my role is changing. I will become the new, permanent host of the broadcast.
As you may have heard yesterday, Meg Ellefson is leaving at the end of this week. She’s explained that she is all talked-out, and is retiring from politics. She leaves WSAU as a friend.
Why am I the right person for this role? Well, for a few reasons. First, and most importantly, you and I know each other. I’m most likely a better choice than hiring someone else, and introducing you to a stranger. In recent years our hosts have lasted in this role between 3 and 5 years. I’d like to bring more stability to the role. This is my home; I intend to stay here until I retire, which is more than a decade away.
There will be times when I will report on the news too. This audience is more than intelligent enough to distinguish the news from my opinions. Newscasts will continue to offer you the facts, as we understand them. Opinions are intended to be thought provoking and to get you and I to think about the issues of the day.
I’ll be onair from 6am to 9am each morning. The 8am hour will be intended for long-form topics, occasional guests, and your phone calls.
My goal in hosting the show is this: If you give me the most valuable thing you have – your time – I hope that you’ll be both well informed and well entertained.
I’m looking forward to this new challenge.
Chris Conley
