ST LOUIS, MO (WSAU) — The St. Louis Cardinals brought home five runs in the 5th inning on Friday, more than enough to play spoiler in a 7-1 victory over Milwaukee.
Jacob Misiorowski failed to get out of the 4th inning, allowing five hits and two earned runs in 3.2 innings. He also recorded three strikeouts and three walks, falling to 5-3 on the season with the loss.
Nolan Arenado smacked a bases-clearing RBI double, then took third on a throwing error to start the 5th. Thomas Saggese and Jordan Walker followed that with run-scoring hits of their own.
Milwaukee’s lone run came on a solo homer from Sal Frelich in the 3rd. Jake Bauers recorded three hits, Christian Yelich and Jackson Chourio added two hits each.
Despite the loss, Milwaukee’s magic number for the NL Central moved to 2 with the Cubs falling to Cincinnati. The Brewers are six games ahead of the Northsiders with eight to play, meaning they could clinch the NL Central as soon as Sunday.
