7th Congressional District Representative Tom Tiffany.
MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Tom Tiffany made it official on Tuesday.
The 7th Congressional District Representative and former Wisconsin State Legislator has announced he will run for Governor. In an appearance on the Dan O’Donnell Show, Tiffany said, “It is a great challenge that will be before us, but it is also a great opportunity. I’m going to accept that challenge, we’re in.”
He’s the third major republican to join the race, though he told O’Donnell he feels he is the best person for the job. He cited his experience serving at all three levels of government, saying he knows how they are all interconnected.
He also cited his experience as a business owner.
His announcement was met with immediate pushback from the Democratic Governors’ Association, which said his inclusion will only make a “nasty primary [even] nastier.” Republican candidate Bill Berrien was critical of Tom’s years of service in Madison and Washington, saying, “the last thing we need is another career politician at the helm. Instead, we need builders who will create prosperity for all through work, revitalize the manufacturing infrastructure that lies dormant in our state, and jumpstart our economy. As the only builder in this race, I’m the strongest general election candidate Democrats will face – and they know it!”
Tiffany’s announcement makes it six major-party candidates for Governor in 2026. That includes current Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez and State Representatives Kelda Roys and Francesca Hong, all Democrats.
Republicans include Josh Schoemann and Berrien. A handful of smaller names and Independent candidates have also declared.
