STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — Police in Stevens Point say a missing child was found safe roughly 6.5 hours after he was last seen.
The 10-year-old boy wandered from his home at about 6:00 PM on Thursday. Police immediately checked nearby parks and schools, but there was no sign of him.
At 11 PM, officers issued a public be on the lookout, asking residents to check outbuildings, trail cameras, and home surveillance cameras for signs of the missing boy. That led to a tip from a resident who saw a person matching the boy’s description walking near Highway 54 and Grant Avenue.
Officers from multiple jurisdictions in Wood and Portage County reported to the scene, including drone teams. They managed to find the boy in a wooded area.
There was concern for the boy’s safety because he is autistic.
Officers thanked the public for their help in the incident.
