CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) –Last Sunday’s trip to Green Bay was a rich experience indeed.
My church, The Cross on Grand Avenue in Schofield, was invited to attend the pastor appreciation service at another multi-cultural church in Green Bay. A small group from The Cross drove there to attend. My pastor, Yaou Yang, was the featured speaker.
The church in Green Bay is bigger than ours; I’d estimate about 200 people. The congregation was all Hmong. As best I could tell, I was the only white person in attendance. The visit reminded me that Christ’s message and the Christian faith are for all people. At my own church, whites and blacks and asians and hispanics and natives all find healing and salvation through Jesus’ sacrafice. Christianity isn’t a “foreign” religion for anyone. The variety of my Christian brothers and sisters is one of God’s gifts to His church.
I also spoke about my going to Green Bay one last week’s program. A listener who knows Jerry Bader, who used to host a talk show on this station, is now a paster at another Green Bay church, Samaritans Heart. It started out as a food pantry and now is also a small and growing congregation that focuses on homeless outreach.
Jerry and I spoke last weekend for the first time in many years. I was sad when he gave up his radio career. Now it’s clear to me that he was listening to God’s call for his life to go in a different direction.
Some Sunday soon I’ll go to Green Bay again to attend his Sunday services.
No matter where you are or who you are in life, God’s call to all of us is universal. There is no one he won’t save. Listen carefully. He wants even you.
