CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Mandela Barnes campaigns today in West Allis. His topic, high energy bills.
Debunking the Barnes campaign, only a week old, is taking up a great deal of air time.
So… a question for Mr. Barnes: Do you realize that green energy is the most expensive energy? Solar panels – lifespan only 20 years, and then impossible to dispose of – take up huge amount of land that could be used for farming. Wind mills – expensive ot maintain, one third of them are out of service at any time – can’t spin fast enough to meet our power needs. Those locals with really good memories might remember that the biofuel plant at the Domtar paper mill is an excellent source of energy for them. But when that power was put into the power grid, it was the most expensive electricity in the state.
So… candidate Barnes… how do you feel about new coal or natural gas power plants? What about nuclear power? These are the sources of plentiful and inexpensive power. But the environmental-left are opposed.
And, while we’re on the subject, how soon until you take a position on AI data centers? They’ll create construction jobs to build ‘em, and tech jobs to start them, and long-term careers to staff them. But they are power-thirsty. Shall we create the power-infrastructure for them? Or shall we regulate them out of existence before they’re even built? Other states and other countries are preparing for data centers now. And lets not forget that one project in Wisconsin Rapids has already evaporated because there wouldn’t be enough electricity to power it.
Tell us, Mr. Barnes, more solar panels and windmills? Or will we charge head-first into our AI future?
Chris Conley
