WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — At least two Wausau Alders have filed non-candidacy for next spring’s election.
Districts six and 11 will be under new representation in the next cycle, as longtime Alder Becky McElhaney and two-term Alder Chad Henke will not seek re-election. That’s according to the city’s candidate tracking matrix as of December 5th.
Five incumbents, Carol Lukens, Terry Kilian, Lisa Rasmussen, Sarah Watson, and Lou Larson, have taken out candidacy paperwork and appear on course to run for re-election. Vicky Tierney, Tom Neal, Aaron Griner, and Michael Martens have yet to formalize their decision with the City Clerk.
Notably, Griner is serving out the remainder of the late Gary Gisselman’s term as an appointed member of the council.
All 11 seats on the Council are up for election every two years. The Mayor’s seat is not up for election this year.
Candidates must return all nominating papers by 5 PM on Tuesday, January 6th. Primaries, if needed, will be conducted on February 17th. The general election is on April 7th.
