Green Bay Packers
GREEN BAY, WI (WSAU) — When you tune into Green Bay Packers coverage on WSAU, you are hearing some of the best radio play-by-play in the NFL.
That’s according to the sports media blog Awful Announcing, whose annual “Local Radio Announcer Rankings” have placed Wayne Larrivee and Larry McCarren as the #1 team in the league for 2025.
Fans were asked to grade their teams on an A-F scale. Nearly 50% of the votes for the Packers duo were A’s, and almost 90% were at least a C.
Larrivee was praised for his ability to bring home the excitement through his calls as ”a top-tier play-by-play man who hits the big moments so well and brings both passion and poise with how he calls the game.”
Larrivee has been the Packers’ play-by-play voice since 1999. His resume also includes work for the Chiefs and Bears. He also called games for the Big Ten Network during its early years and worked NFL and college basketball games for Westwood One Sports. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2021.
Some fans were less complimentary of McCarren, but not enough to keep the team from getting the top spot. All four NFC North clubs saw their radio teams land in the top ten: Minnesota at #10, Chicago at #9, and Detroit at #5.
