BONDUEL, WI (WSAU) — A crash between two large vehicles snarled traffic along Highway 29 Monday morning.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office was called to an area near the intersection with High Line Road east of Bonduel at about 10 AM to find a snowplow in the median and a semi and trailer jackknifed in the ditch.
Investigators determined that the plow was operating in the left westbound lane when the semi approached from behind, rear-ending the plow and pushing the vehicle into the median. The driver of the plow sustained minor injuries, while the driver of the semi was trapped and required extraction. They were hospitalized with serious injuries.
Witnesses noted that the right lanes were clear at the time of the crash.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is investigating the crash. Westbound lanes were closed for more than four hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
Multiple agencies responded, including first responders from Bonduel and Shawano. ThedaStar Air Ambulance also responded to the scene.
