CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) Do you know what’s coming up next Tuesday and next Wednesday?
Next Tuesday is Fat Tuesday, the end of Marti Gras. Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent. It’s the 40 days of preparation before Easter. I know, it feels like we just took down our Christmas decorations.
Christians will usually give up chocolates, or other sweets, or meat. A small sacrifice reminds us of the sacrifice that Christ made for us.
If you are not changing your diet between now and Easter, I have some other suggestions that may appeal to you. How about attending church for each Sunday between now and Easter? I’m certain the next five weeks will have meaning to you. Perhaps give the full tithe – 10-percent – when the offering plate is passed? A small part of your treasure for God’s work on earth. How about being more patient towards others? One good deed a day, or one kind word of encouragement for someone who needs it? I assure you that 40 kind acts between now and Easter will benefit others and will be good for your soul.
You see, how you prepare for Easter isn’t important. What matters is that you do something.
Christ is about to reveal to us yet again that He is exactly who he said He is. Perfectly.
Will you be prepared?
Chris Conley
