Governor Tony Evers at the D.C. Everest Idea School in Weston, WI (WAOW)
WESTON, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Governor Tony Evers made a visit to DC Everest Idea School Wednesday to speak with students and staff about the importance of maintaining good mental health in schools. The visit comes less than 24 hour after the Democratic Governor delivered his final State of the State address, Tuesday.
Evers took part in a group activity with students where each received a bandana and marker to write positive affirmations on. The bandanas were then tied together to be displayed in the school. Evers shared with 9 News that he wrote ‘I’m OK with being criticized.’
Criticism is nothing new for the two-term governor. Following Tuesday’s State of the State, many Republicans stated Evers used the address to take credit for their party’s successes.
“That’s what bipartisanship is about frankly,” said Governor Evers. “Both sides have to give a little bit and get something else in return. I think people are not used to being (criticized) or talking in those terms. I think it’s really important.”
Evers went on to say his speech was meant to be about both parties coming together to make Wisconsin better.
“It wasn’t about me it was about what was accomplished together and what sort of things we have to do going forward,” said Governor Evers.
