WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) Wausau City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde has resigned.
She announced last week that she is leaving her post at city hall for another job opportunity. She did not elaborate.
She will remain clerk through the spring elections. Her final day will be April 9, two days after the election.
Bernarde had been a key figure in the ethics complaint against mayor Doug Diny, who removed an unsecured absentee ballot drop box from outside city hall. Wausau’s ethics board ruled that Diny exceeded the authority of his office, but did not sanction him.
Diny says the city has posted the vacancy, and is accepting applications. In Wausau the city clerk is an appointed position. It is an elected office in other municipalities.
