STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Edward Orgon Jr. has been sworn in as the 31st Chief of Police in Stevens Point. Orgon takes over from former Chief Bob Kussow, who retired in January after nearly three decades of service.
Orgon previously served as the chief of police in Lake Hallie since 2021. His 35-year career began in Chesterfield, Virginia, where he worked as an officer and detective for eight years. He then joined the Drug Enforcement Administration, eventually serving as the Resident Agent in Charge for the Buffalo-Niagara Falls area in 2018.
“Being a police officer is the best job in the world, and I commit to you to make sure you feel that way every time you come to work here,” Orgon said to many Stevens Point officers in the room. “I will be your biggest cheerleader for the great work that you all do daily, and I will always have your back.”
He also addressed the citizens of Stevens Point, vowing transparency and accountability from the police department.
“I believe that we all have common goals to improve the quality of life for every Stevens Point citizen and visitor,” Orgon said. “Please know that the Stevens Point Police Department is committed to working with you to make this community a safe and secure place to live and work.”
Orgon was appointed as the new chief of police in December, following the Police and Fire Commission’s 3-2 vote.
