WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — Remodeling at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Wausau will displace voters in Wausau Districts 7 and 8.
City Clerk Kaitlyn Bernarde says those voters will now cast ballots alongside their peers in Districts 3 and 10 at the Marathon Park East Gate Hall. Despite bringing four districts under one roof, she doesn’t foresee any issues for the upcoming elections. “We have been working with staff in the city to make sure we utilize the space well, minimize lines, and direct the flow of people in and out so they have a positive voting experience.”
Bernarde says they considered other locations, but Marathon Park became the preferred option based on availability and accessibility. “There is a lot of off-street parking available [including] designated handicapped spots. Curbside voting is also available right out front [of the building.]”
The City Council approved the move as part of Tuesday’s consent agenda. Bernarde says voters will see the change in their MyVote WI listing in the next few days, and all impacted voters will receive a postcard announcing the move as well. Notice of the change will also be posted at St. Mark’s on Election Day, directing voters to the Park.
The next election is on April 7th, when voters will decide city council and school board races alongside the state Supreme Court election. Bernarde says absentee ballots will be mailed starting March 17th, and in-person, absentee voting at City Hall will open on Tuesday, March 24th.
