STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — The UW Board of Regents has named Dr. Robert Brinkman as the 16th Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.
In a Facebook post, the school said Brinkman will take the post on July 1st. He currently serves as Dean for the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.
His resume also includes stops at Hofstra University in New York and the University of South Florida, though he’s no stranger to the UW System. Brinkman earned his Bachelor’s degree at UW-Oshkosh and his Master’s and Doctorate’s from UW-Milwaukee.
“I am pleased that Dean Brinkmann is returning to the Universities of Wisconsin,” said Jay Rothman, President of the Universities of Wisconsin. “He understands the student experience and the importance of the breadth that a liberal arts education at UW-Stevens Point can deliver.”
Brinkman was one of three finalists for the job. The list also included current Interim Chancellor Pratima Gandhi and John Hayek, a vice-Chancellor in the Texas State University system.
Gandhi will continue to serve as Interim Chancellor until Brinkman’s arrival. The opening was created when former Chancellor Thomas Gibson left the Stevens Point campus for the same post at UW-Milwaukee.
