PLOVER, WI (WSAU) — Vice President JD Vance spent Thursday morning at a manufacturing facility in Plover, stumping for Republicans, including Derek Van Orden, ahead of the 2026 midterm election.
“Do we want to give power back to the people who opened our borders and raised your taxes?” Vance asked the crowd at one point, calling out Democrats who didn’t stand and applaud during the President’s speech. “If you watched their reaction to some of what he was saying and all I could think was ‘These people are kind of crazy.'”
Democrats rarely stood for the President, and some heckled in protest of his policies.
Van Orden was in attendance for Vance’s speech along with Republican Tom Tiffany, who represents the neighboring 7th Congressional District and is running for Governor.
Vance also took questions from the media, including WISN Political Reporter Matt Smith and Laura Schulte of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
It’s not uncommon for members of the President’s cabinet to hold rallies across the country after the State of the Union to drum up support for the policies outlined in the speech.
