WESTON, WI (WSAU) — Two D.C. Everest students have been selected to perform at an event in Normandy, France, marking the 85th anniversary of World War II.
Ember Meadows and Emma Danke auditioned for the spots last year and were selected along with 60 other students from across the nation. They will travel to Washington, DC in early June to be fitted for their uniforms and train before performing at the WWII Memorial.
The group will then depart for France to participate in the D-Day Memorial Parade and Ceremony. The parade goes down Eisenhower Avenue in the historic village of Sainte-Mere-Eglisein Normandy. Special Commemoration Ceremonies will be held in Utah Beach with a visit to the Normandy American Cemetery.
“It’s an honor to represent our school, community, state, and country for the All-American D-Day Band performance in France. We have been fortunate to have amazing teachers, instructors, mentors, family, and friends who have encouraged us and helped us every step of the way in our musical journey. This is for them,” says Meadows.
Meadows and Danke have immersed themselves in musical band programs throughout the community and with their schools. They have been active in Central Wisconsin Educational Theater Alliance (CWETA) pit orchestras, performed alongside professional and community musicians at Central Wisconsin Musicians (CWM) events and performances, and have both achieved top recognition at State of WI Solo & Ensemble competitions.
