Paul Vang
WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — A Fox Valley man has been bound over for trial on two felony counts related to a high-speed chase through the Wausau area.
Paul Vang faces counts for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute and fleeing an officer after allegedly leading officers on a chase from Rib Mountain to north of Wausau on US 51 in early January. Officers initially stopped his vehicle for speeding, but he took off as they approached.
The chase reached 110 MPH before officers used a PIT maneuver and deployed spike strips to stop his vehicle. A K9 officer then alerted its handlers to the presence of drugs in the vehicle, and a search of the chase route turned up more than 300 grams of meth in a baggie on the side of the road. While interacting with the 35-year-old, officers noticed signs that he may have swallowed some of the drugs, leading to a hospital visit before he was booked into the Marathon County Jail.
Vang appeared in court last week, where a judge bound him over for trial. He has not entered a plea to the charges, and no trial dates have been scheduled. He’s scheduled to return to court on March 12th for a scheduling conference.
He is also facing a first-offense OWI, which is a forfeiture in Wisconsin.
Vang, also known as Kenji Vang or XX Kenji, is being held on a $25,000 cash bond.
