WAUSAU, WI (WSAU) — The woman accused of swindling thousands from an elderly person over whom she had power of attorney has once again been scheduled for trial.
Ramona Bartell is now scheduled for trial from September 14th through the 23rd, after at least two other attempts were scheduled but later removed from the calendar for various reasons. In one instance, a new prosecutor was assigned to the case, forcing a reset.
Bartell is facing charges for theft in a business setting and theft of movable property. Investigators accuse her of using the victim’s money to purchase items like small appliances, electronics, and everyday items like gas and groceries.
She’s also accused of using the funds for a vacation and other items that didn’t appear to benefit the victim, who died in 2021. Bartell was one of two women enlisted to handle the victim’s finances. A second suspect, Melissa Stark, has already been convicted for her role in the scheme.
The 70-year-old faces up to 16 years in prison if found guilty. Pretrial hearings are scheduled for August 13th and 25th. She is free on a $10,000 signature bond.
