MOSINEE, WI (WSAU) — The Mosinee City Council has selected a new Mayor after Pete Nievinski stepped down due to health concerns.
According to a Facebook post, Alders unanimously voted Ward 4 Representative Tom Helbach into the seat, noting that he brings more than 20 years of experience as an Alder and “valuable insight from his time as a local business owner. His leadership, dedication, and deep understanding of our community will help guide the City during this important transition.”
Helbach’s Ward 4 seat will be filled based on the results of the April election. He was not running for re-election.
Nievinski was elected Mayor in 2025 after former Mayor Brent Jacobson was elected to the State Assembly. In his resignation letter, dated February 15th, he noted that several health issues would keep him from giving the position “the attention it needs and deserves.”
His term was due to expire in April 2027. Helbach will serve the remainder of the term.
