WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Malarkey’s Pub, a beloved Wausau establishment, will close its doors at the end of this week, after serving patrons for nearly 20 years.
Owner Jesse Bartnik says this year for St. Patrick’s Day will be a little different, as the pub will host a final day party this Friday, March 20.
“We’ve got three dollars off of all Irish doubles, a dollar off all Irish beers, we’ve got a really awesome Guinness espresso martini on tap, ” Bartnik said. “And tons of Irish prizes: hats, scarves, shirts, sunglasses and all the rest.”
This past year, Malarkey’s welcomed a new neighbor, Mumble Wrap, a sandwich and wrap shop. With rebranding plans, Bartnik said the shop will relocate entirely.
“With Mumble Wrap, we are going to be taking a little bit of a hiatus there, in order to do this the right way,” said Bartnik. “Definitely want people to keep an eye on social media for updates there, because we do plan on relocating and just rethinking the space that that will live.”
The new place will be titled “Farwaway Place,” which is the Ojibwe translation of “Wausau” in English. Bartnik says the place will feature a cocktail lounge-style bar replacing Malarkey’s, while a burger restaurant will take the place of Mumble Wrap. It should be open sometime in late April.
