TOWN OF GREEN VALLEY, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office has released new details about an officer-involved deadly shooting on March 10.
WAOW TV reports that the incident started when deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence on State Highway 22 around 1:41 a.m.
They say Jonathan L. Lupe, 38, was found locked in a bathroom and claimed to have a gun. When Lupe advanced toward the deputies with what appeared to be a firearm, Deputy Cole Vande Hei, with four and a half years of service, discharged his weapon.
Despite life-saving attempts, Lupe was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No law enforcement or public members were injured.
The item Lupe held was later identified as a Crosman Pellet Gun.
Deputy Vande Hei is on administrative leave. The investigation is ongoing, and findings will be submitted to the Shawano County District Attorney’s Office.
The incident was captured on the officers’ body-worn cameras. That video has not yet been released, as the investigation continues.
