Benjamin Feltz
WISCONSIN RAPIDS, WI (WSAU) — The man accused of stealing a Wisconsin Rapids ambulance and taking it on a 40-minute trip to Pittsville is competent for trial.
Benjamin Feltz was in court on Monday, where both sides went over a competency evaluation, agreeing that the 37-year-old can aid in his defense. The Judge then found him competent.
Feltz is accused of jumping into the driver’s seat of the ambulance as two paramedics were working on a patient in the back. The 18-mile chase ended in a field near Pittsville after the vehicle got stuck. He was eventually taken into custody without further incident.
No one was injured in the chase, including the patient. They were eventually taken to a local hospital in another ambulance.
The 37-year-old faces multiple felony counts for recklessly endangering safety, taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, and fleeing an officer. He also faces a count of threatening an individual involved in the court or legal system.

Misdemeanor charges against him include a 3rd offense OWI, obstructing an emergency response, operating with a revoked license, and disorderly conduct. He also faces a count of lewd behavior stemming from the fact that he was naked during the incident.
Court records show Feltz has also waived the time limits for a preliminary hearing and has not entered a plea for the charges. Further court action is pending.
