WAUTOMA, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – An Amber Alert has been canceled after a missing girl from Wautoma was found safe in Nebraska.
Authorities say Irene Lentz had been taken out of the area to meet Joseph Nicpon, a convicted sex offender who is prohibited from having contact with her. Officials later learned Irene was taken out of the area with her mother, Betty Lentz, to meet Nicpon.
Nicpon had been released from prison on March 31 on charges including incest with a child and sexual assault. On April 3, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections reported he removed his GPS tracking bracelet in Adams County, prompting an investigation.
Authorities believed the three had fled the state before they were ultimately located in Nebraska. Irene has since been found safe. It is not immediately clear if Nicpon or Betty Lentz are in custody.
