Josh Ostrowski
STEVENS POINT, WI (WSAU) — One day after he received the endorsement of outgoing Sheriff Mike Lucas, Undersheriff Josh Ostrowski has announced his candidacy for the position.
Ostrowski released a statement, saying he hasn’t stumbled into this decision. “I have carefully discussed this with my friends, family, co-workers, and Sheriff Lucas over the past few years.”
Ostrowski grew up in Portage County and graduated from Rosholt High School before studying at UWSP. He currently lives in the Town of Dewy with his wife and notes that they take pride in calling Portage County home.
He has served in many roles with the Sheriff’s Office over the last 25 years, including patrol deputy, sergeant, drug investigator, captain of operations, and undersheriff.
“The next Portage County Sheriff will face both traditional and unique challenges. If elected as the next Sheriff, I will continue to aggressively address these challenges with assistance from law enforcement and community partnerships,” said Ostrowski.
In his announcement, Lucas noted that Ostrowski has taken it upon himself to learn all aspects of the Sheriff’s position and has a firm grasp of the upcoming jail and sheriff’s office remodeling project.
