Bear hunting season opens on September 9th

UNDATED (WSAU) – The bear hunting season in Wisconsin opens on September 9th.

Bear hunting licenses are some of the most difficult to get in the state. 34,000 hunters applied for about 15,000 available licenses. 106,000 applicants paid extra for preference in future hunting lotteries.

Hunters are required to know the specific regulations within their zone.

The bear population, estimated at 24,000, is said to be thriving in the state. The annual hunt is the state’s primary means of keeping the number of bears in balance based on available habitat.

The season runs through October 13th.
