Sep 29 (Field Level Media) – The New York Islanders are selling a 15% stake in the club, with the team valued at $3 billion, Sportico reported on Monday.
Venture capitalist David Shuman was previously announced as a new minority investor in the Islanders, but the identity of the people or entities involved in the 15% portion was not revealed.
In Sportico’s 2025 ranking of NHL team values, the Islanders were No. 14 in the 32-team league at $1.93 billion. The league average was $2.1 billion, more than double the figure from three years earlier.
Bumping the Islanders’ value up to $3 billion would put the team in a tie for the fourth-most valuable in the NHL alongside the Boston Bruins. The top three are the Toronto Maple Leafs ($4.25 billion), New York Rangers ($3.65 billion) and the Montreal Canadiens ($3.3 billion).
The Islanders’ primary owners, Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky, spent $485 million for the club 12 years ago. The hockey team, Oak View Group and Sterling Equities are co-owners of the Islanders’ home venue, UBS Arena in Elmont, N.Y., which costs at least $1 billion to build and opened in November 2021.
UBS Arena will be the site of the 2027 NHL All-Star Game in February.
The Islanders went 43-34-5 (91 points) and missed the playoffs for the second season in a row in 2025-26. They open the new season Wednesday in Toronto.
