CONLEY COMMENTARY (WSAU) – Donald Trump wants to do some simple, nice things. And, because he is Donald Trump, some people try to block him at every turn.
Consider the East Potomac Golf Course. It’s a public course, in a public park in Washington DC. Because of security concerns, Trump will never play there.
Still, he would like to renovate the course and turn it into a championship level course. He says the upgrades will make it a better city asset. It will attract more players and put more money into city coffers long after he leaves office.
But now there’s a lawsuit from Washington DC busybodies who want the project stopped. And they’ve found a super-liberal judge, Ana Reyer, to hear the case. She’s ordered a hearing over cutting back and removing trees.
Some 400 trees have already been removed or cut back. And now comes a court order: Trump must give three days notice before any more trees are felled. Trump tweeted that course renovations will begin ‘immediately’ and that was the subject of a court hearing on Monday.
This has reached the point of theater of the absurd.
If there’s one thing that Donald Trump is indisputably good at, it’s building things. From golf courses, to country clubs, to hotels, to casinos… the things he puts his name on are well-done. I’m sure if anyone were to look at the current layout East Potomac Golf Course and the artists renderings of what it is to become, I’m certain the latter is better.
From the Kennedy Center, to the White House ballroom, to this project, Donald Trump would leave all of these projects better than he found them. One deranged democrat even suggested a litmus test for other donkeys who want to be president: are you willing to tear down the new ballroom and put it back the way it was? That, of course, is stupid. But, of course, everything involving Donald Trump must be a knock-down drag-out fight.
