Rian Nyblom
MERRILL, WI (WSAU) — Day two of the reckless homicide trial for Javarius Hurd featured testimony from a co-defendant linked to the fatal 2024 assault at the Lincoln Hills School.
Rian Nyblom took the stand around 3:30 PM Tuesday, answering questions from both the prosecution and defense regarding the death of youth counselor Corey Proulx. Nyblom’s testimony is scheduled to resume Wednesday morning.
The 20-year-old is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for two counts of battery by a prisoner in connection with the case. According to court records, Nyblom was a teenager at Lincoln Hills when he handed Hurd a cup of soapy water. Hurd allegedly threw the water into a correctional officer’s face, prompting Proulx to chase Hurd into an outdoor recreation area to restrain him. Prosecutors allege Hurd then attacked Proulx, who struck his head on a hard surface and later died from his injuries.
Tuesday’s proceedings began with opening statements, followed by testimony from three additional witnesses and the introduction of several court exhibits.
The trial is expected to continue through Friday, October 30th.
