MARSHFIELD, WI (WSAU) — An investigation is underway for possession of explosives in Marshfield.
According to a news release from the Marshfield Police Department, the Department responded to a call Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in the 800 block of E. Harrison St. A family member had found what was suspected to be explosive devices in the apartment of a 70-year-old Marshfield man.
A preliminary investigation indicated the presence of suspected pipe bombs in the apartment. A third of the apartment building was evacuated for the 6-hour incident as the Marathon County Bomb Squad safely removed the suspected explosives. Additional assistance was provided by the Marshfield Fire and Rescue Department and WE Energies.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing. There is no information that suggested the man intended to use the devices. There is currently no known safety concerns for the Marshfield community.
