WASHINGTON, D. C. (METRO) – Wisconsin’s Democratic U.S. Senator is proposing an unemployment extension that would guarantee millions of people across the country an extra 600 dollars per-week until next October.
Senator Tammy Baldwin yesterday said the Worker Holiday Relief Act would extend federal unemployment help til the fall, and expand its reach to cover gig workers and freelance workers.
Baldwin said while the extension would last til next October, some workers would continue to get paid as long as the national unemployment rate averages five-and-a-half-percent, or if they live in states where local unemployment remains high.
The current round of federal unemployment help is set to expire the day after Christmas.
