IOWA CITY, IA (WSAU) — An early offensive struggle turned into a 28-7 victory for Iowa in the Big Ten regular-season finale for the Wisconsin Badger football team on Saturday.
Wisconsin’s lone touchdown came in the 3rd quarter when Nakia Watson scored from one-yard out to cap off a short three-play, 25-yard drive. Watson finished the game with 29 yards total, as a team the Badgers had just 56 yards.
The game’s first touchdown didn’t come until early in the 3rd quarter when Iowa covered 71 yards in just five plays to take a 14-0 lead following a two-point conversion. The Hawkeyes extended that lead to 21-7 by the end of the quarter.
Graham Mertz finished the game with 20 completions and 169 yards. He also threw one interception.
Jack Sanborn led the defense with seven tackles. The Badgers failed to force a turnover and recorded just one QB pressure and two sacks.
As of Sunday morning, the B1G had yet to announce matchups for the final week of the season outside of the Championship Game in Indianapolis between Northwestern and Ohio State. Officially Wisconsin finished the season in 3rd place in the West Division, and based on standings would take on Maryland. Although there has been some discussion about allowing the Badgers and Minnesota to make up their canceled game from Week Six of the season.
