MADISON, WI (WSAU) — The Wisconsin men’s hockey team scored a 3-1 win over Minnesota on Saturday, ending the Golden Gophers’ ten-game win streak.
Tarek Baker had one goal and one assist in the win, including a helper on the game’s first goal scored by Linus Weissbach. Minnesota cut the lead to 2-1 halfway through the 3rd but Wisconsin would score an empty-net insurance goal by Owen Lindmark with under a minute remaining.
Wisconson held on despite giving the Gophers three power-play opportunities in the game’s final 20 minutes. Minnesota scored on one of those chances, finishing the game 1/4 on the power play.
Wisconsin went 0/2 with a man advantage.
Robbie Beydoun made 35 saves in net to help cement the win.
It’s the third time in recent memory that the Badgers have defeated Minnesota when the Gophers are ranked #1 in the country. The last time was a pair of 2-1 wins in February of 2014.
Wisconsin and Minnesota will wrap up their two-game weekend set Sunday afternoon. Play-by-play coverage on WSAU begins at 3:30 PM, face-off at 4.
